The eighth annual Senior Holiday Gala was as joyous as ever, despite the heavy rains and winds. The weather most likely played a part in why the attendance was down. For those who braved the wind and rain, the Chabolla Center was a hub of friends, food and festivity.
Each year the event includes lunch, entertainment, raffles and a visit by Santa. The luncheon was presented by South County Services, the Asian Community Center, Area 4 Agency on Aging, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, and the city of Galt. In addition, the Real Mens Club, Steven Stanford DDS, Mike Guttridge Realty, Business Materials Distributor, Jim and Patty Hays, Dees Meats, and LaVine Insurance contributed.
The entertainment was provided by LaDeana.
I sing in senior centers for a living, said LaDeana. I came today because I love to sing for seniors, and it is good to volunteer.
This was the third year friends Cheryl Rojas and Judy Riddle have attended the lunch.
We appreciate all the hard work everyone puts into this, said Rojas.
Volunteers decorated the tables with centerpieces and bright table coverings. The event committee was led by Craig Morris, Cheryn Nicolaus and Georgia Giguere. South County Services staff members Gloria Rodriguez, Jennifer Kaloi and Christy Wallin helped. Additional support was provided by The Galt Herald and Galt Parks and Recreation Department.
We volunteer to do this every year; it is important to give back, said Cheryn Nicolaus on behalf of the volunteer committee.
Raffle prizes were donated by Galt Beauty Supply and Salon, Galt Bible Church and Galt First Baptist Church. Jan and Steve Douke and Delta Physical Therapy also contributed baskets filled with items. Donated gift certificates came from Dees Meats, Hunan House, Brewsters, Velvet Grill and Creamery, and Wholey Ravioli. Spaans and Sweet Creations Bakery raffle prizes will provide a sweet treat on a later day.
Isabel and Christina Rodriguez were enjoying lunch with their mother Eva Volanos. Volanos said she has been attending the luncheon for years and enjoys seeing both old friends and new faces.
